The Cost of Cheap Grace
What is a Christian?
At the most basic level, a Christian is a disciple of Jesus Christ. Many believers today, however, don’t think of themselves as disciples. Many of them couldn’t tell you what disciple even means. The appealing message of "salvation by grace alone" has become a convenient distraction from the gospel message of Jesus himself.
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, and following him means to live differently-to be active participants in the great commission, wherever it takes us, whatever it costs us. To be saved by grace is to be invited into a life of discipleship. Everything else is secondary.
The Cost of Cheap Grace is an extended, sweeping, bold, and bracing call to repentance for where we’ve let secondary things subvert our commitment to following Christ. It offers a compelling vision for discipleship as the basis of the gospel in all its world-changing, subversive power.
Bill Hull is the author of several books, the founder of Bill Hull Ministries, and the cofounder of the Bonhoeffer Project.
